An Uncommon Tale : Margaret tells us how she was able
to Tap into her Qi in A Time of Need
(Margaret has been practising Tai Chi with the Academy for
six and a half years.)
All this year, I've been really thinking about and trying to relax and
release my joints - I can see how stiff I look in the mirror. First, I
found that in order to relax my body, I had to relax my mind. It was
the hardest thing of all, but I was making progress when the Hun Yuan
classes started.
After a Saturday lesson, I went to the usual Wednesday night class where
Brett concentrated on more of the exercises to relax the shoulders. I
had this overwhelming feeling that all the tension of 54 years
suddenly left me - a sort of rising rushed
up my spine and through my head. There were several times during
class that I had trouble staying upright. I was really tired that
night but in the morning I couldn't get up - literally. It was
astoni shing
- I honestly couldn't get off the bed for several hours and I had to
ring my work
and say I was sick. I just slept for hours on end, dragged myself
to the kitchen to eat and then slept all day.
The funny thing is that not only has my body loosened, but the changes I
was trying to make in my mind suddenly happened so easily that I feel
like a stranger to myself. I know that you can't see it and that I
probably look just as tight as ever, but I feel radically different
inside when I practise.
The second thing happened just two weeks ago when I was packing to move
house. I sprained my wrist badly. Believe me - just moving slightly
sent pain to my shoulder - the whole hand swelled and went beetroot
colour – I stood in the shower and snivelled in self pity.
Well, I calmed down and did the Hun Yuan exercises, even though my arm
was useless. I then held my wrist on the Dan Tian and swathed myself in
a rug. I just focused on qi to the wrist. The heat was burning hot and
I'd sat there for several hours when the pain suddenly stopped. In the
morning, I could move my fingers and wrist. I kept doing the Hun Yuan
and in three days it had healed completely. Now that truly had been a
bad sprain - I'm the first aid officer at work and I do know what they
look like - usually it would take a couple of weeks to heal something so
severe - yet I was able to finish the packing and haul the loads for the
house moving!
The outcome is of course total commitment!
(This is an actual account, but the name has been changed for reasons of
privacy.)
